A Sweethaven Summer The Sweethaven Circle Book 1 edition by Courtney Walsh Religion Spirituality eBooks

A faded scrapbook reveals secrets that reconnect old friends in a place called Sweethaven.
Campbell Carter has come to Sweethaven in search of answers about her mother's history. Just before losing a battle with cancer, Suzanne Carter sent letters to childhood friends from her hometown of Sweethaven, Michigan. Suzanne's three friends -- Lila, Jane, and Meghan -- haven't spoken in years, yet each has pieces of a scrapbook they made together as girls. Suzanne's letters have lured them all back to the idyllic lakeside town, where they meet Campbell and begin to remember what was so special about their long Sweethaven summers. As the scrapbook reveals secrets from the past, old wounds are mended, lives are changed, and friendships are restored -- just as Suzanne intended.

I loved this book because it was about scrapbooking and friendship and loss and reconnecting. Four girls were inseparable as teens, then grew apart when one kept a secret from the others and when another's son drowns. All have been away from Sweethaven for a number of years. They started a scrapbook at the insistence of one of the girls. A scrapbook that was later divided up among the 4 before they all went their separate ways.
One gets cancer and returns. Just as she's about to tell her daughter who her father is, she takes a turn for the worse, leaving her daughter to search for answers on her own. This leads to the daughter reconnecting with 2 of her mother's former friends and the mother of the 3rd friend. (The 3rd friend doesn't make an appearance until late in the book.)

A Sweethaven Summer The Sweethaven Circle Book 1 edition by Courtney Walsh Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I loved this book! Mystery, romance, charming setting, novel plot, fascinating characters, while having an underlying Christian theme, I had a hard time putting this book down. It deals with forgiveness issues in a realistic and candid manner. The characters are dimensional and unforgettable. Precious book.
The characters and the circumstances are believable, likeable and not boring. The death that took place at the beginning drew me in. Perhaps a few more details about lives and relationships in the initial setting would have been helpful. However, I was drawn in enough that I wanted to keep reading. I will read the two remaining books in the series.
"A Sweethaven Summer" grabbed me from page one, immersed me into an idyllic town full of characters facing a variety of real life problems, and had me falling in love with the characters whose vulnerable stories grabbed me. I felt like a part of the Sweethaven Circle by the time that I closed the book. It's a sweet and inspiring read that will leave you wanting to read more about these amazing characters and charming town... which is great since there are two more books in the series and a novella! ) Don't miss out on reading this incredible debut by author Courtney Walsh! You won't regret it!
I'm not going to lie. This book made me cry. A couple of times. But that was a good thing because it means the story tugged at my heart and really came off the page. I wasn't able to distance myself from it. I had to feel it.
I wish I could say that I was surprised by some of the family situations in this book, but alas it seems like they were almost too familiar to what people I know have gone through or at least similar. It seems that family has the greatest capacity to love you but also the greatest capacity to hurt you. Parts of this story were truly heartbreaking. But the forgiveness and reconciliation was oh so sweet.
I don't want to give away any spoilers, but this was a great read. It had a great combination of sweet memories, painful trials, family, art, and a little bit of romance too.
I can't wait to see where book 2 takes me!
What a wonderful story. I loved the storyline, the friendships which are such a big part of this story, and every woman who has girlfriends in their lives from grade school will love this. I was expecting just a "girly" summer at the beach type story. Was I ever surprised. A much deeper story into each person and the scrap booking is perfect way to bring this story together. I never guessed who the mystery guy was, good job.
I decided to purchase this book based on the description because I was not familiar with this author. I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed this book!! The characters were interesting people and I looked forward to reading more and more about them. I started reading Christian fiction a few years ago and this is one of the better books I have read in that genre. The author did a great job of not interjecting scripture in awkward places in the book just to fulfill some unwritten quota to qualify a novel as "Christian fiction". I have already purchased another kindle book by this author and will look forward to her future books.
Thoroughly enjoyed this reunion/reconcilation themed story set in everyone's idealized "hometown". Ended up ordering the other two books and binge read the whole set in just a couple of days. Wishing I could visit Sweethaven and visit with the incredible cook, Adele and artistic Campbell and gifted Meghan and loyal friend Jane and the strong beauty Lila. Time the time to get yourself introduced to this series - women who struggle and have faith questions and love, live and share everything.
