Reviews

"A thoroughly enjoyable page turner." - Historical Novel Society

"How I do love Gothic novels, and here is a good example of the genre. Take a brooding castle on the moors, a sinister master, ghostly phenomena, a Mrs Danvers like lady's maid and a masked ball and stir them all together, then serve and enjoy." - My Shelf

"If you enjoy historical novels with romantic suspense in the Gothic tradition, then STORMCROW CASTLE is for you. Amanda Grange pens a well-written Regency Gothic that is a definite page-turner. Ms. Grange creates a satisfyingly eerie atmosphere at Stormcrow Castle where the reader can easily imagine almost anything happening within its walls. Torkrow is a perfect Gothic hero and Helena the perfect Gothic heroine . . . Highly recommended." -The Romance Readers Connection

"Grange peppers her story with rich atmospheric details, from a masked ball to a cast of colorful locals. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this tale of intrigue and deception on the barren moors." - Publishers Weekly

Castle of Secrets Amanda Grange Books

This book was very enjoyable and interesting to a point, with a story line much like a Victoria Holt novel, but it missed a five star rating with me due to its disappointing conclusion. The ending was rushed and to some extent implausible. Helena Carlisle comes to Storrmcrow Castle in hope of finding out what happened to her Aunt Hester who was the housekeeper there, only to find out that she left the castle suddenly in the middle of the night. Throughout the story various characters describe Helena's aunt as a sour faced old lady, which Helena knows isn't like her aunt at all. This tends to make one think that perhaps the housekeeper wasn't her aunt at all, but this discrepancy is never explained. I have several other issues with the conclusion, but I don't want to spoil the story for someone else who might want to read it.

Castle of Secrets Amanda Grange Books Reviews

Amanda Grange is a new author to me, and I'm looking forward to finding more of her work. Finally, another author who is good enough and secure enough, to publish an excellent romance without all the sex....and I didn't miss it one bit! The story grabbed me, and held me until the end...and I'm hoping for a sequel.

The heroine travels to a remote castle in search of her beloved aunt...only to find that her aunt has mysteriously disappeared. In spite of feeling unwelcome, she decides to take her aunt's place as a much-needed housekeeper...in hopes of uncovering the secrets surrounding the castle. As time goes on, she finds herself more and more attracted to the sad and mysterious Lord of the castle.
This book is done in the Gothic style, but on a slightly lighter tone. It's not nearly as dark as many Gothics are. This isn't a complaint, just an observation. I enjoyed the book, although the plot was a bit contrived and unbelievable at times, as the author seemed to being trying a bit too hard for the Gothic feel. Overall, a nice read.
This book is a well written mystery romance set in a gothic time period. The author really keeps you guessing what has happened to Helena's poor Aunt! The characters and dialogue are intriguing. The story was unique.

There was absolutely no sex to speak of and if you like romances where the H and H declare their love for each other right away, this isn't the book for you.
Several things going on in the story. Surprise ending. Writing could have been better. She uses phrases like "things could get ugly". I doubt they used cliches like that in Victorian England. Also the romance seemed unlikely with the way she describes Simon at first. He didn't seem very appealing. It was still a good read. Very Gothic.
This was an interesting historical story. The mystery of Helena's missing aunt was very intriguing to follow. The writing style was a bit different than what I am used to. I felt it was, for lack of a better word, choppy and it didn't flow super well. Once I got used to that though, I did enjoy the overall tale. I wish there had been a bit more to the romantic portion. I really did enjoy the twists and turns that the mystery of the story took. Definitely worth a read.
Good story line with lots of drama which kept me interested. Good character development. Mysterious and intriguing if you like this sort then definitely go for it.
This is a good Gothic story that held my interest from beginning to end. The mystery about what happened to Helena's aunt keeps you wondering, and I enjoyed the family revelations and twists that occur mainly in the last part of the book. The romance builds slowly and is satisfying for a clean read. For those yearning for a romance without sex and/or profanity, you'll be pleased to read this one.
