Did you ever feel like someone else had your life?

Like you’re living a really crappy life while someone else is living the really spectacular life you were supposed to have?
Jo doesn’t feel like she deserves any of the multiplicity of shit storms that have rained on her through her life. She has given up on fulfilling any of the dreams she had for herself, and is now just existing. It’s not what she wanted, but it seems to be as good as she can get, and maybe… just maybe… if she flies real low under the radar everyone will just leave her alone.
So, when the door opens wide will she walk through it or slam it in the face of the very person who has her “real” life?

Not My Life edition by Selina Rosen Angela Lowrey Literature Fiction eBooks

Her best book by far, the most likable characters and the least artificial problems to keep the main characters apart longer. The "morning after" phone call always makes me laugh.

Not My Life edition by Selina Rosen Angela Lowrey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

What a wonderful experience. Read the first 2 chapters and then try to stop!! Well thought out. I love this one, and now I will read anything Selina writes. I am impressed with her ability to craft such realistic characters, conversations, descriptions. Emotional attachment for me came swiftly. She has truly captured the full spectrum of emotions for me. A wonderful cast, all so nicely well-developed. I really did not want this story to end!
Reading NOT MY LIFE is not like drinking twenty-one year old Scotch, it's like drinking raw moonshine. Both are acquired tastes. One drinks the Scotch for the subtle flavors but the moonshine for intensity.
Ms. Rosen, especially in this novel, is certainly intense. That's one of several reasons for liking the book.
I should probably warn readers that this book is not science fiction or in the usual fantasy genres. That said, I think fans of her work will definitely want to read this one.
The story is not written in the lexicon of the New York academic but in a distinctively Midwestern vernacular which contributes to the story's punch.
The protagonist is Jo, a woman who has worked hard all her life and couldn't buy a break and, if she found it, couldn't afford it. She was raised by a mother who was vicious and self-centered and who, along with most of the population of a small town, have done their level best to convince Joe that she's worthless.
Until the day she learns she is one of a pair of twins, that her sister is dying of leukemia and that Jo's bone marrow is needed to save her life. Her sister, reared by her father, is rich and famous. Joe reluctantly submits to a painful medical procedure to save the stranger that is her twin sister. She also meets her father and brother-in-law. Will Jo become part of a family or remain outside? If she discovers fame and fortune, how will it change her?
The issues raised are examined and any more about the plot would be telling.
Ms. Rosen also provides a rare look into a culture within a culture that is seldom seen and of which I was largely unaware.
I have two criticisms, either or both of which may not mean anything to a prospective reader. The first is that Jo is almost too good. She has her rough edges but doesn't come across as really flawed, Perhaps I don't see what others might regard as flaws in that light or have just become jaded by a glut of books with deeply flawed characters.
The other is a technical problem. I found a few sentences indecipherable and a few words misspelled. To me, it's more a speed bump but I know other readers who will come to a hydraulic whoa. Still other readers, thoroughly engaged in the story, may not even notice. I'd say it's a solid 3.5 stars, but doesn't give me that option.
I love this story and the characters that Ms. Rosen has created. This story was great fun to read causing me to laugh out loud many times while reading the verbal exchanges between her protagonists. I passed this book over several times and read her other works first because the cover made me think it was a pirate book. I know, don't judge a book by it's cover, but I did. Now, after reading the book I wish I had read it sooner. I was completely hooked after the first few pages and stayed up half the night reading, I could not put it down and read it start to finish in one sitting. Complex characters in this story make it a real gem for the romantic at heart, you just feel the love in it. Jo had to over come so many hardships in this story, when she did I was so happy for her. The story seemed to flow with ease and not feel forced or stretched beyond belief or edited to death. Heck I want to be Jo now, or her girlfriend. LOL.
I will not make the mistake of cover grazing again. I was wrong about the cover, it does reflect part of the story, but not the entire book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would highly recommend to many friends. This was my first time reading this author's material but I will be buying another book shortly. The story was funny and real with a great love story. Kudos to the author.
Her best book by far, the most likable characters and the least artificial problems to keep the main characters apart longer. The "morning after" phone call always makes me laugh.
